Hey K-reator!
I enjoy identifying as something, and everyone should. I was thinking about the concept of family image, which is very common among our parents, and the constant reminder to avoid “destroying the family name or image” in any given situation. This leads to the realisation that parents regard the family as an entity worth protecting and preserving for future generations. They want people to associate the family with certain qualities and values, so anything or anyone who has the potential to tarnish this image becomes a threat. Similar to branding, this concept entails defining an image for a thing or person(s) and portraying that image to the public.
Why is branding important to you as a creator?
Branding can be defined as how others recognise your business, people's perceptions of your business, and the things that set you apart from the competition. When you have a distinct voice and a unique standing that your audience recognises, you have a brand. Branding extends beyond logos, colours, and designs which are just marketing tools. It includes your voice, attitude toward business relationships with customers, and many other factors.
Creating a distinct brand should be a priority for any creator who is ready to or is already treating their craft as a business. There are already thousands of creators doing what you do, or even better, how do you stand out from the crowd, and what is the significance of developing this distinct voice?
As a content creator, branding is extremely important, and if you want to stay in the game for a long time, you must develop a strong brand. Though there are successful creators who have “free styled” their entire journey without a distinct voice, the success rate is glaring when compared to creators who are deliberate about branding.

Here are some reasons that should motivate you to brand your creative business
Branding sets you apart from other creators and makes you memorable. Sometimes you don't even remember a creator's name or social media handle, but something about their content sticks with you. For example, it could be Salem King's articulate delivery of his contents or a specific creator's content style that sticks with you. The point is that they are unique, and you won't find it everywhere.
As a creator, branding will carve out a niche for you, and you will not work with just anyone who comes your way, but you will be selective in your partnerships. Tobi Ayeni, also known as “Miss Techy” online, created a distinct brand focused on gadgets and technologies; if you look closely at her feed, you will notice a distinct focus and niche. You will not find yourself hopping from fashion expert to food connoisseur the next day if you have properly branded yourself.
Branding makes it easier for international and large organisations to recognise and work with you. If you don't stand for anything, it implies that you stand for everything. Serious organisations want to work with people who can replicate the energy, not people who thrive on jumping on every thread and dropping unsolicited 2 cents everywhere.
When you present yourself as a brand rather than an individual, your value rises. People will only see value in things that you value, and this includes your brand. So, putting together a professional tone in communication, organisation in content delivery, and even transactions communicates much more than you might think. A creator dropping an account number in dm’s will be perceived differently than another sending a branded invoice via email.
The benefits of branding are numerous, but you can already imagine your creative business taking a 180-degree turn when you pay attention to branding.
Getting started with branding is simple and has a higher ROI if done correctly. The basics are to consider what value you want to offer your audience and why you want to offer these values. These realisations will shape your content style and make you more deliberate in everything you do. Being a content creator "no be beans," but whatever is worth doing at all, is worth doing well, abeg.
