I was casually scrolling through Instagram one day when I came across this video of a lady bitterly complaining about her experience with creators. She stated that she has worked with several creators and that she concludes that they have a poor attitude toward work, relying solely on billing and vibes.
This is just one of many complaints that have surfaced, and it does not imply that all creators are like this. Attitude to work goes a long way, and you may find yourself returning to the same creative business because you had a positive experience, and many creative businesses have grown to be larger than they were because of simply having the right attitude to work. People are great resources, and cultivating healthy relationships with people using the right attitude to work is one way to grow and stay on top of your game as a creative business owner. However, it is important to note that this relationship building should not be limited to fellow creatives.
Why should a creative business owner cultivate healthy relationships?
You've probably heard the expression "your network is your net worth." While this is true, one important aspect that is often overlooked is that your network should include everyone who comes into contact with your creative business, not just those who run similar businesses or those from whom you stand to benefit. Some creative business owners put in all of the effort required to build a creative business, but when it comes to networking and establishing relationships daily, they fall short.

Making a conscious effort to cultivate a healthy relationship is an excellent investment that allows you to access opportunities with less effort. There is also a saying about letting your brand speak for you, which I agree with; you can go even further by letting your attitude toward work do the talking. Offer your services in positively memorable ways, and when your creative business comes to the minds of people who have had contact with you, it is all smiles😊.
Numerous factors contribute to having the right attitude to work as a creative business owner, but having the right attitude that fosters a relationship requires more effort. As an example, some creators believe that once they have completed the services for which they have been compensated, the process ends with no further action. Even after you've finished providing your services, staying in touch can help you build a rapport.
There are also times when brands or prospective clients reach out for inquiries and end up declining the proposed project partnership. The average creator ignores them and looks for the next gig to jump on, but the truth is that just because those brands were unable to work with you at the time, doesn't mean they can't work with you in the future. Reaching out and cultivating relationships keeps you on their radar while also opening doors to opportunities that would have been closed if you had not reached out.
Communication with people in similar fields is important because it keeps you up to date on what's going on in your field of interest. Sometimes creative business owners only reach out to other creative business owners because they require something from them, which should not be the case. Learn to build healthy relationships even if you don't have any interest at first; this will make your outreach more genuine.
Make an effort to cultivate relationships not because you need or want something from the person right now, but because you anticipate positive outcomes in the future. Overall, your attitude toward work is everything, and it is worth cultivating to provide your creative business with that love at first sight.
