My chat with a fitness trainer
Fid#026: Get to know more about the Life of a fitness trainer from one...
Hey K-reator!
After discussing the fitness industry in one of the previous newsletters, I felt it was important to speak with a fitness trainer - you could call it "hearing from the horse's mouth." So, following the fitness trainer scouting, I met Soludo, and our conversation was fascinating.
Soludo is a fitness expert and a versatile entrepreneur who has done exceptionally well in the fitness industry. He has effectively managed this business for about 5 years, assisting people in reaching their fitness goals. In this interview, he discussed his business, Bodyright, and his thoughts on the fitness industry in general.
Let us introduce Soludo, the showrunner of Bodyright.
Q: Hi Soludo, tell us a bit about your fitness training business
Okay, so I've been in the fitness training business for about 4/5 years now, and as an athlete from the beginning, dealing with clients and helping people achieve their fitness goals has never been difficult. However, I can say that I have learned more and added some knowledge to what I don't know or understand better now.
Q: Why did you choose fitness training over other options, such as sports, as you mentioned?
Yes, for many reasons, I did not end up in sports, going pro, and the like, but I am still considered an athlete today. However, with my limited knowledge of football, I can incorporate those skills into play when training my clients.
My areas of expertise include functional training and athletic performance. Working with athletes, such as football players, has always been a breeze.
So it's a win-win situation at the end of the day because I can help people achieve their goals, which is also a great feeling.
Q: I’m curious, what was your life like before fitness training?
Just a normal boy, lol. I've always loved football and staying fit since I was a kid, and I've dabbled in modelling. I guess these factors were what contributed to my passion for fitness.
Q: How is your fitness business going right now?
It's been going smoothly. I train a few clients while also managing the fitness business, which includes the sale of Sog gym equipment as well as installation and gym setups.
Q: I've noticed that the fitness industry has recently grown in popularity; what are your thoughts on the fitness industry in Nigeria?
Yeah, there has been much more awareness in the fitness industry over the last 2/3 years. Both young and old people are more interested in their well-being and how fit or healthy they appear, which has been a very good thing and has brought more awareness to fitness generally in Nigeria. I remember back in the days when parents told their children to stay away from built guys because they appear dangerous lol... but the story is different today.

Q: How profitable is the fitness business?
It depends because, like any other business, it has its ups and downs. Fluctuations are unavoidable and can vary depending on the season.
Q: What season do you deem profitable?
When summer approaches, most people rush to the gym to achieve their body goals (summer body kinda). Unlike the “gym rats” who come every day of the year. There are a couple of other reasons as well. Unlike some trainers, I am not affiliated with any brand as a freelance trainer, and this has worked differently for me.
Q: What are some of the things you think will make business better for you as a fitness trainer?
For real funds like everybody says lol. There are ideas but without money, they are not alive 😊. So we keep grinding till we get all in place.
Q: What are some common misconceptions about fitness trainers?
I get to hear some couples of ones like they are magicians lol. Once you’ve got a trainer, you can get your desired body goals without breaking a sweat.
But trust me, if you don’t put in the work, you’re only just stacking your trainers’ purses with the bread 💰.
Q: How can one get started in the fitness training business?
To begin, I believe that aside from being certified as a trainer and taking some courses, your individual personal experience is important. This is because fitness is a practical sport, and most certifications would only help with theoretical knowledge, whereas only experience would make it easier for someone who wants to become a fitness trainer.
As an example, I gathered my experience from being an athlete, which I was still into modelling before becoming certified and a student of the game, and then progressed to becoming a trainer/entrepreneur. So we all have our own unique experiences that set us apart in our respective fields. I also know a few people who began their careers as dancers before moving into the fitness industry.
So, it's just you gathering your personal experience and applying it to the fitness life and coming up with something useful that can contribute to becoming a fitness trainer.
Q: Finally, would you choose this profession again if you could do something else?
Honestly, not until that time. But only if I don't become a professional trainer for clients, I would choose to work out and be a fitness lover over and over.
Love, light and laughter!
Your guy,
Philo🧡
