Hey K -reator!
If you grew up in a proper African home, you will understand the special treatment that visitors receive, particularly during celebrations. From selecting the finest plates that have stayed untouchable in the cabinet to sending you to get the coldest malt competing with the temperature in Antarctica😑. Even after doing all the chores to make this "visitor" comfortable, you are asked to go inside with mothers batting their eye lids in various directions. You vanish out of sight while the visitor munches on the largest piece of meat cheerily🙄. Sorry if this became too personal😂; this newsletter isn't about august visitors eating at my house, but rather about exploring the relationship between creators and creative platforms. It will be appropriate to refer to creators as “visitors” and creative platforms such as YouTube, Instagram, Substack, Tiktok, and others as hosts.
Why is this relationship analysis important?
Creative platforms are constantly developing tools and updating their platforms to make it easier for creators to create content. From user interface upgrades to new feature introductions to keep up with trends, as well as juicy offers like the creator funds springing up all corners. We can compare all of these acts to the special treatments our parents provide visitors. You want them to be as comfortable as possible and to have the best experience possible while they are there. The creators are guests who frequently visit more than one host at the same time. Most creators use multiple platforms and enjoy the new tools developed by these creative platforms.
Though creative platforms believe they are providing the best for creators based on various yardsticks. Creators argue that these platforms are not providing them with what they truly deserve and that the initial offering is a ploy to attract more creators to their platform rather than supporting existing ones.
So, who truly requires whom in this relationship, and how can these inseparable parties coexist peacefully?

We can all agree that a creative platform without creators is a waste of time and resources, and a lack of platforms for creators to express themselves expressively will keep lots of creativity hidden. Because these two parties cannot exist without each other, both are extremely important in their respective roles.
So, how can these parties co-exist peacefully?
Creators are valid when they claim that these platforms do not pay them as much as they deserve because they play an important role in keeping audiences on this platform. The only reason you continue to visit Tiktok or binge watch YouTube videos is to find content that you enjoy. If creators work tirelessly to create content that keeps a large number of people on these platforms, which generates revenue for these platforms, paying them appropriately is only fair. Some creators have come out to condemn some creator funds that are floating around the internet; I believe it is only fair to reach out to these creators and devise ways for everyone to benefit.
Creators, unlike august visitors in our homes, bring a lot to the table, and finding ways to reward this labour is the bare minimum. Aside from monetary support, there are other ways to protect creators on these platforms. The ideal ecosystem seeks to make creators gain as much value as they give.
Keep creating, my fellow creators, until this goal has been accomplished.
Love, light and laughter!
Your guy,
Philo🧡
